Sometimes a grey, rainy day needs a warm treat. This healthy hot chocolate is delicious, easy to make and full of minerals and good fats. It’s also dairy free and free of refined sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Healthy Hot Chocolate

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Yield: 2 servings

Healthy Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Raw cacao
  • 2 cups Coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut sugar

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients
  2. Taste and adjust cacao or coconut sugar for sweetness
  3. Pour in a small pan and warm on stove - do not let milk boil

The proportions for this are a bit loosey-goosey. I don’t like things super sweet so you may want a bit more coconut sugar. Or add a bit more cacao if you want delectable, rich chocolate. Even when I make it I taste it to make adjustments before transferring it to the stove to warm up.

The great thing about this treat is all three ingredients are full of health benefits.
Coconut milk is full of healthy fats and lauric acid (which is converted to monolaurin which has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties).

Coconut sugar has minerals like zinc, calcium, potassium and iron. It also is a good source of inulin, a prebiotic that supports gut health, helps your body metabolize fat and improves immunity.

Raw cacao powder is a great source of antioxidants and both magnesium and iron. Magnesium is a nutrient most of us don’t get enough of that can relax muscles and improve your heart and cardiovascular system. It can also lower blood pressure and dissolve plaque in your arteries.
